అనగనగా ఒక అడవిలో ఒక కోతి, ఒక మొసలి స్నేహితులు. నీళ్ళల్లో ఉండే మొసలికి నేల మీద ఉండే కోతికి ఎలా పరిచయం అయ్యింది అంటారా? అది ఎవరికి తెలీదు. ఎలాగో పరిచయం అయ్యింది.
కోతి ఇల్లు ఒక చెట్టు మీద ఉండేది. ఆ చెట్టు పక్కనే ఒక నది ఉండేందు. నదిలో మొసలి ఇల్లు. రోజు కోతి చెట్టు మీద, మొసలి నీళ్ళల్లో ఉంటూ నే కబుర్లు చెప్పుకుంటూ ఉండేవి. ఇద్దరి స్నేహం చూసి అడవిలో జంతువులూ ఆశ్చర్య పోయేవి. కోతికి అడవిలోని వేరే కోతులు మొసలిని నమ్మద్దని సలహా ఇచ్చేవి. మొసలి మాంసం తింటుంది, ఎప్పుడైనా నిన్ను కూడా తినేస్తుంది, అంటూ జాగ్రత్త పాడమని చెప్పేవి. కాని కోతికి మొసలి మీద నమ్మకం వుండేది. అందుకనే వాళ్ళ స్నేహం చాలా రోజులు కొనసాగింది.
ఒక రోజు ఈ విషయం మొసలి భార్యకి తెలిసింది.
“ఏంటిది, నిజామా? నీకు ఒక కోతి తో స్నేహముందా?” అని ఒక రోజు మొసలిని అడిగింది.
మొసలి ఒప్పుకుంటూ, “అవును, చాలా రోజులు గా పరిచయం ఉంది. కోతి చాలా తెలివైనది, నాకు చాలా విషయాలు చెప్తుంది” అన్నాడు.
మొసలి భార్య, “కోతి గుండె చాలా బాగుంటుందట. నువ్వు ఆ కోతిని చంపేస్తే మనం ఇద్దరం కోతి గుందేకాయిని పంచుకుని తినచ్చు” అంది.
మొసలి కి భార్యమీద పిచ్చి కోపం వచ్చింది. “కోతికి నాకు చాలా మంచి స్నేహం ఉంది. స్నేహితుడిని ఎలా చంప మంటావు?” అని కోపంగా అడిగాడు.
భార్య మూతి ముడుచుని కూర్చుంది. పట్టించుకోకుండా మొసలి ఇంట్లోంచి వెళ్లి పోయాడు.
మొండి భార్య ఊరుకుంటుందా? పట్టు వదల కుండా రోజు పోరు పెట్టింది. తిండి తిప్పలు మానేసి, ఒక మూల కూర్చుని రోజు పోరు పెట్టింది. మొసలికి మనశ్శాంతి లేకుండా చేసింది.
చివరికి నస భరించలేక ఒక రోజు మొసలి ఒప్పుకున్నాడు. “సరే, ఈ రోజు సాయంత్రం కోతిని తీసుకుని వస్తాను, నీకు నచ్చినట్టు కానీ” అని కోతి ఉండే చెట్టు వైపుకి బయలుద్యారాడు.
కోతిని చెట్టు మీంచి దిగి రమ్మని ఒప్పించడం ఎలా? అందుకని ఒక పడకం వేసాడు.
చెట్టు కింద నుంచుని కోతిని పిలిచాడు. కోతి బయటికి వచ్చింది. మొసలిని చూసి సంతోషంగా పలకరించింది.
మొసలి కోతితో,”మన స్నేహం గురించి నా భార్యకు చెప్పాను, నా భార్యకి చాలా ఆనందం కలిగింది, నిన్ను ఈ రోజు భోజనానికి తీసుకు రమ్మంది,” అని ఆహ్వానించాడు.
కోతి సంబర పడింది. సరదాగా మొసలి ఇంటికి భోజనానికి వెళ్లి మొసలి భార్యను కూడా కలవచ్చని ఒప్పుకుంది. కానీ నీళ్ళల్లో వెళ్ళడం ఎలా? మొసలి తన వీపు మీద కూర్చో పెట్టుకుని తీసుకుని వెళ్లి, తిరిగి తీసుకు వస్తాను అంది.
కోతి చాలా ఉత్సాహంతో వచ్చి మొసలి వీపు ఎక్కి కూర్చుంది.
మొసలి నీళ్ళల్లో ఈదుతూ కోతిని తన ఇంటివైపుకు తీసుకు వెళ్ళాడు.
దారిలో మొసలి ఏడవడం మొదలట్టాడు. కోతికి ఆశ్చర్యం వేసింది. ఎందుకు ఎడుస్తున్నాడని మొసలి ని కనుక్కుంది. మొసలి ఏడుపు ఆప లేదు. కోతి చాలా అడిగింది. మొత్తానికి నది మధ్యలో కొన్ని రాళ్ళ మీదకి ఆగి ఇద్దరు మాట్లాడుకున్నారు.
భోజనానికి పిలిచింది అబద్ధమని, మొసలి, తన భార్యా కోతిని తిందామని ఈ పడకం వేసారని నిజం చెప్పేసాడు మొసలి.
ఈ మాట విన్న కోతికి ఒక్క సారి గుందేలాగి పోయినంత పని అయ్యింది. ఎలాగరా ఇందులోంచి బయటపడడం అని ఒక పక్క, అసలు అందరూ చెప్తున్నా వినకుండా ఈ మొసలిని ఎలా నమ్మానని అని మరో పక్క, బుర్రోలో ఒకటే సారి ఆలోచనలు తిరిగాయి. నమ్మక ద్రోహం జరిగినందుకు దుఃఖం, ప్రాణాలు పోతాయేమోనని భయం, ఎలా తప్పించుకోవాలని ఆందోళన, ఎన్ని రక రకాల భావాలు ఒకటే సారి కలిన్గుంతాయో మీరు ఆలోచించ గలరు.
కాని కోతి చాలా తెలివైనది. అంత సులువు గా ప్రాణాలు వాదులు కుంటుంద? ఈ భావాలేమి మొసలికి తెలీయనివ్వ లేదు. గట్టిగా నవ్వడం మొదలిట్టింది.
మొసలి కన్నీళ్లు నవ్వుతున్న కోతిని చూసి ఆగి పోయాయి. ఇది ఊహించలేని రియాక్షన్ కదా.
కోతి మొసలితో అంది, “ఓస్! ఇంతేనా? దీనికి ఎందుకు ఏడుస్తున్నావు? ముందు చెప్తే నేనే నీకు నా గుండె తెచ్చి ఇచ్చే వాడిని. కాని ఇప్పుడు అది నా దెగ్గిర లేదు. నా ఇంట్లో భద్రంగా దాచి వచ్చాను. మళ్ళి ఇంటికి తీసుకుని వెళ్తే, చేట్టులోంచి నా గుండె తీసుకొచ్చి నీకు ఇస్తాను. నువ్వు నీ భార్య హ్యాపీ గా తినచ్చు” అంది కోతి.
మొసలి కోతి మాటలని నమ్మేసింది. కోతిని తిరిగి ఇంటికి తీసుకుని వెళ్ళింది. కోతి “అమ్మయ్య!” అనుకుని ఒక్క గెంతు గెంతి మొసలి వీపు మీంచి చెట్టు ఎక్కేసింది. ఇంట్లోకి వెళ్లి సడి చప్పుడు చేయకుండా కూర్చుంది. అలా ప్రాణాలు కాపాడుకుంది.
మొసలి చాలా సేపు ఎదురు చూసి మొత్తానికి కోతి ని పిలిచింది.
కోతి కొమ్మ మీదే కూర్చుని, “గుండె లేదు ఏమి లేదు! అసలు నీ లాంటి మొసలితో నాకు స్నేహమే వద్దు. ఇంకెప్పుడు నాకు కనిపించకు” అని కోపంగా చెప్పింది.
మొసలి తల దించుకుని వెళ్ళిపోయింది.
చేడువాళ్ళతో స్నేహం ఎప్పుడు చెడె చేస్తుంది. అలాంటి వారితో మనం దూరంగా ఉంటేనే మంచిది.
